Derwent Valley Council

In the period October to December 2016  the Director of Local Government received complaints regarding the governance and operational performance of the Derwent Valley Council, as well as an issue regarding the failure by the Council to adopt the Model Code of Conduct before 13 July 2016 as required by the Local Government Act 1993 (the Act).

Given the nature of the complaints the Director undertook an investigation into the Council pursuant to the provisions of section 339E(4) of the Act. The investigation involved interviews with the elected members and senior staff of the Council as well as the examination of a variety of Council documents.

In August 2017 the Director provided his investigation report to the Council. This report provides findings and recommendations on the governance and operational issues considered during the investigation.

The Director of Local Government Report to the Derwent Valley Council August 2017 is available to download.

The Derwent Valley Council responded to the Director of Local Government Investigation Report on 19 September 2017 and the Derwent Valley Council's response to the Report is available to download.
