There are four types of partnership agreements developed under the State and Local Government Partnership Agreements program:

Bilateral with one council
Regional with a group of councils
Statewide with all councils through the Local Government Association of Tasmania
Tripartite between the State and Commonwealth Governments and all councils through the Local Government Association of Tasmania

Signed bilateral agreements

A bilateral partnership agreement is between the State Government and one council. The first Bilateral agreement was signed with Circular Head Council on 1 June 1999.

Signed regional agreements

The State Government introduced regional partnership agreements to address issues that cross local boundaries but do not apply to the whole state. All Tasmanian councils have chosen to be part of one of three regional local government organisations.

Signed statewide agreements

Statewide partnership agreements are developed under the Premier's Local Government Council between the state and all local governments on issues of statewide significance.

Signed tripartite agreement

In addition to bilateral, regional and statewide partnership agreements, a ground-breaking tripartite partnership agreement is under implementation within the partnership agreements program. It is the first agreement of its kind in Australia.

Break O'Day

The Break O'Day Council is a member of Northern Tasmania Development.

The second Break O'Day Partnership Agreement was signed on 13 April 2009.

Brighton

The Brighton Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

Burnie City

The Burnie Council is a member of the Cradle Coast Authority.

The Burnie City Council Partnership Agreement was signed on 6 September 2002.

Central Coast

The Central Coast Council is a member of the Cradle Coast Authority.

The Central Coast Partnership Agreement was signed on 15 October 2006.

Central Highlands

The Central Highlands Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

The Central Highlands Partnership Agreement was signed on 15 October 2002.

Circular Head

The Circular Head Council is a member of the Cradle Coast Authority.

The Circular Head Partnership Agreement was the first State and Local Government Partnership Agreement signed in June 1999. A second partnership agreement was signed on 20 September 2004.

Clarence City

The Clarence City Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

The Clarence City Partnership Agreement was signed on 23 October 2006.

Climate Change

The climate change agreement was signed on 16 December 2008. It is the fifth statewide partnership agreement signed by the State Government and local government in Tasmania. The agreement will be ongoing.

Communication and Consultation

This is the second communication and consultation partnership agreement signed under the Premier's Local Government Council. It was signed by Premier David Bartlett and President of the Local Government Association of Tasmania, Councillor Mike Gaffney on 16 December 2008. The first agreement was signed on 27 March 2003.

The agreement sets out the commitments of both the Tasmanian Government and local government to communicate on issues of statewide importance and includes guidelines on communication and consultation between the two spheres of government.

Cradle Coast Authority (CCA)

The CCA consists of nine councils located in the north-west and west of the state. These are:

Burnie City Central Coast Circular Head
Devonport City Kentish King Island
Latrobe Waratah-Wynyard West Coast

The CCA Partnership Agreement was the second regional agreement developed under the State and Local Government Partnership Agreements program. It was signed on 10 October 2001

The Derwent Valley Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

The Derwent Valley Partnership Agreement was signed on 19 September 2002.

Devonport City

The Devonport City Council is a member of the Cradle Coast Authority.

The Dorset Council is a member of Northern Tasmania Development.

Financial Reform

The statewide Partnership Agreement on State and Local Government Financial Reform was signed on 29 July 2003. It was the fourth statewide Agreement signed, and the first of its kind in Australia.

Flinders

The Flinders Council is a member of Northern Tasmania Development.

A bilateral partnership agreement was signed with the Flinders Council on 20 October 2000.

The George Town Council is a member of Northern Tasmania Development.

A bilateral partnership agreement was signed with the George Town Council on 23 March 2003. A second partnership agreement was signed on 25 October 2009.

Glamorgan-Spring Bay

The Glamorgan-Spring Bay is a member of Northern Tasmania Development.

The Glamorgan-Spring Bay Partnership Agreement was signed on 3 December 2002.

Glenorchy City

The Glenorchy City Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

The first partnership agreement with the Glenorchy City Council was signed in October 2000. The second partnership agreement was signed on 30 July 2008.

Hobart City

The Hobart City Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

A partnership agreement with the Hobart City Council was signed on 11 December 2001.

Huon Valley

The Huon Valley Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

Kentish

The Kentish Council is a member of the Cradle Coast Authority .

King Island

The King Island Council is a member of the Cradle Coast Authority.

The first partnership agreement with the King Island Council was signed on 3 April 2003. The second partnership agreement was signed on 30 August 2008.

Kingborough

The Kingborough Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

A single-issue partnership agreement with the Kingborough Council was signed on 18 December 2001. This is the first single-issue agreement to be developed with a Tasmanian Council.

The Latrobe Council is a member of the Cradle Coast Authority.

The Latrobe partnership agreement was signed on 17 July 2003.

Launceston City

The Launceston City Council is a member of Northern Tasmania Development.

A bilateral partnership agreement was signed with the Launceston City Council in November 1999. Negotiations towards a new Launceston City Partnership Agreement commenced in August 2003 and the Agreement was signed in July 2005.

The Meander Valley Council is a member of Northern Tasmania Development.

Northern Midlands

The Northern Midlands Council is a member of Northern Tasmania Development.

The Northern Midlands Partnership Agreement was signed on 5 December 2003.

Northern Tasmania Development

Northern Tasmania Development consists of eight councils located in the north and north east of the State. These are:

Break O'Day Dorset Flinders
George Town Launceston City Meander Valley
Northern Midlands West Tamar

The Northern Tasmania Development Partnership Agreement was originally signed as the Northern Tasmanian Municipal Organisation (NTMO) Partnership Agreement. The NTMO was disbanded in 2002 and management of the partnership agreement was transferred directly to the Northern Tasmanian Regional Development Board (NTRDB).

The Northern Tasmania Development Partnership Agreement was the first regional agreement developed under the State and Local Government Partnership Agreements program. It was signed on 18 July 2001 and revised in March 2003 following the first evaluation.

Population Ageing in Tasmania

This is the first tripartite partnership agreement. It is between the State and Australian Governments and the Local Government Association of Tasmania, representing all 29 Tasmanian Councils. It is the first agreement of its kind in Australia. The agreement was signed on 28 August 2006.

Sorell

The Sorell Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

The Sorell Partnership Agreement was signed on Friday 21 July 2006.

Southern Midlands

The Southern Midlands Council is a member of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority.

The Southern Midlands Partnership Agreement was signed on Tuesday 27 March 2007.

Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority (STCA)

The STCA consists of 12 councils located in the south and east of the State. These are:

Sorell Southern Midlands Tasman

The STCA Partnership Agreement was signed on 11 December 2003.
