Recent activities of the Board

The Board reached an important milestone during 2006-07, completing its first cycle of reviews of all 29 councils in Tasmania.  (Reports detailing the findings of the Board's reviews can be found on the publications page.)

In 2008 the Board commenced reviews of single and joint authorities of councils in accordance with paragraph 1(b) of section 214 of the Local Government Act 1993 (the Act). This has enabled the Board to provide an appropriate level of advice to the Minister through the publication of reports with recommendations.

The Board commenced its first round of single and joint authority reviews with the two waste management authorities in Tasmania:

The Board’s report and recommendations on its review of Copping Refuse Disposal Site Joint Authority was approved by the Minister for publication on 11 September 2008.

The Board’s report and recommendations on its review of Dulverton Regional Waste Management Authority was approved by the Minister for publication on 23 September 2008.

The Board commenced a second round of reviews, of regional and strategic joint authorities, on 7 January 2008. This group included:

  • The Board’s report and recommendations on its review of Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority was approved by the Minister for publication on 14 October 2008.
  • The Board’s report and recommendations on its review of the Cradle Coast Authority was approved by the Minister for publication on 15 October 2008.
  • The Board’s report and recommendations on its review of the Southern Waste Strategy Authority was approved by the Minister for publication on 28 October 2008.
