Being active is important at every stage of life and age is certainly no barrier to getting active.
An active community enjoys many physical, economic and social benefits. Among these benefits are an improved quality of life, reduced risk of health problems and more community involvement.
The Department of Communities Tasmania, through Communities, Sport and Recreation, aims to create opportunities for all Tasmanians to enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.
The Get Active booklets provide many ideas for older adults to be active and social in their local area, whether it be gardening, playing golf or tennis, joining in aqua aerobics or playing scrabble. These books have something to suit a wide range of interests and abilities.
The 2019 editions of Get Active are available now from libraries, councils and Service Tasmania outlets.
There is a booklet for the North and North West.
