Tasmanian Veterans' Advisory Council

About TVAC

The Tasmanian Veterans' Advisory Council (TVAC) provides advice and support to the Government on issues affecting the serving and ex-service community in Tasmania. The Council's role is to:

  • consider and develop strategies to promote the wellbeing of all members of the serving and ex-service community
  • provide a forum for the ex-service community to communicate directly with the Government through the provision of advice
  • encourage co-operation across all ex-service organisations in Tasmania
  • monitor and provide advice about matters relating to the recognition and commemoration of the service of veterans.

Members of the serving and ex-service community are especially encouraged to contact the Council to give feedback and information about issues that affect them, particularly issues that the State Government is responsible for.

The Council will conduct forums around the State from time to time to give members of the ex-service community and their families the opportunity to talk with Council members and put forward ideas and feedback. Times and dates of the forums will be published on this website.

Issues that are the responsibility of the Commonwealth Government, including pensions, healthcare, rehabilitation and compensation, will be referred to the relevant Commonwealth agency.

How TVAC operates is provided in the Terms of Reference (PDF, 106KB)

TVAC's Terms of Reference allow for up to 12 members.  Members are appointed as individuals rather than as representatives of organisations.  The Minister appoints the Chair of the Council.
