Government Services

Government Services supports machinery of government processes, manages critical issues related to the administration of government, and is primarily responsible for Right to Information processes and appointments of Heads of Government Departments.

The services provided include inter-departmental support for the preparation, scrutiny and processing of documents, key advice for the department through to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary (Corporate and Governance), support for the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Executive Management Group and advice to the Premier’s Office, Ministerial Offices and departments on procedures and administrative policy.

The key objectives of Government Services are to:

  • maintain comprehensive timely and accurate services and provide advice to support the machinery of government;
  • manage critical issues that are highly sensitive and may impact on the successful implementation of the Government’s overall administrative framework; and
  • develop and implement mechanisms to support open and accountable government.

Government Services manages the Register of Lobbyists

Tasmanian Government Board Fee Policy

Government Services administers the Tasmanian Government Boards database and can provide advice to agency staff about:

  • policies and guidelines for boards and committees; and
  • determining board and committee sizing and remuneration arrangements.

The Tasmanian Government uses a framework developed previously by consultants Mercer, Cullen Egan Dell (MCED) to determine appropriate maximum levels of fees for board members.

The Tasmanian Government Board Fee Policy (PDF) outlines a framework that provides a set of steps for classifying boards and incorporates a scale of maximum fees for board members.

In June 2015, the Tasmanian Government agreed that future increases in the Government Board Remuneration Framework would be aligned to increases approved for the Tasmanian State Service Award.

Government Services also includes the following work units:
