The Tasmanian Wedges Project (2009) modelled Tasmania's greenhouse gas emissions to 2050 under a business-as-usual scenario. This assumed that emissions would continue to be produced at the same rate as when the report was written in 2009.
The Project also identified potential emission reduction options for each sector of the economy and evaluated the abatement potential and cost of each option. It also considered opportunities for early action, barriers to implementation, the impact of the national Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (proposed in 2009 and deferred in 2010) and the expanded national Renewable Energy Target on Tasmania's emission profile. The Renewable Energy Target has been revised since the Wedges Project report was released.
The Tasmanian Government engaged McLennan Magasanik Associates to undertake the project.
