Biodiversity Month

Start Date 1st Sep 2018
End Date 30th Sep 2018
Location National
Description

September is Biodiversity Month, an opportunity to promote the importance of protecting, conserving and improving biodiversity in Australia and around the world.

Biodiversity is the variety of all living things in the world - the animals, plants and micro-organisms - and the communities they form. A high level of biodiversity is important for the health and resilience of all living things.

To help protect biodiversity, you can:

  • Reduce, reuse and recycle your waste.
  • Only put water down the drains to keep oils and chemicals out of our waterways.
  • Compost your food and garden waste.
  • Get rid of weeds in your garden, so they don't spread to bushland areas.
  • Plant native species in your backyard to provide habitat for local wildlife and birds.
  • Don't eat threatened fish species.
  • Respect native wildlife, including when you're on the water, and don't get too close or feed them.
