Tasmanian Aboriginal Artists Project

cards The Tasmanian Aboriginal Artists Project showcases artwork from young and emerging Aboriginal artists, as well as established artists with national and international recognition. The project has been made possible through a partnership between the Tasmanian Government, the Australian Government, the Aboriginal community and the arts sector. The project has also been supported by ABC Northern Tasmania through hosting of an online exhibition at www.abc.net.au/northtas.

The aims of the project were to:

Acknowledge and respect the contribution of the Aboriginal community and its culture have made and continue to make to Tasmania and its identity
Have Tasmania recognized nationally and internationally for its innovation, pursuit of excellence and creativity in arts and culture
Facilitate economic development of Aboriginal arts in Tasmania
Create a vibrant and productive artistic community in Tasmania by creating a financial incentive for participation in the arts and for personal artistic development especially amongst young Aboriginal artists.

As part of the project a gift card set comprising 12 cards featuring the work of Tasmanian Aboriginal artists was produced. The card set includes envelopes and is printed in Tasmania using environmentally responsible printing processes and recycled paper. The inaugural gift pack sold very well, which provided for a second set of cards and it is hoped that the project can be run again for a third card set. It is also hoped that this project may provide the impetus for future collaborative projects for the community in promoting economic development of Aboriginal arts.
