Beach Chairs

Women have always sacrificed themselves for their family and others.

Young and old, single or married, they don’t get the time to sit around and relax (as they deserve), or have time to read a book, do the garden or paint their nails.

Multitasking women today are shopping, cooking, washing clothes and cleaning.

Women need to make a stand like Jessie Spinks Rook did. She helped Tasmanian women to gain the vote.

Women need to find time for themselves. In my painting I imagine that, in the hot shadows of the sun, a mother is sitting in a beach chair, relaxing, wearing her sun hat, and with her bag containing books, sunscreen, music and nail polish. However, the reality is that she isn’t. She possibly has had to drop everything and tend to the children.

The whites and light blues are indicative of the highlights in a woman’s life, whilst the dark blues represent the down times.

The empty chairs tell all.
