I have painted myself from a family photograph; to present the family photograph, not how it appears, but how it felt.

My parents migrated, with me as an infant, to Tasmania as “Ten Pound Pom” teachers from Lancashire in the UK. As my parents struggled to retain their English identity, I struggled to attain an Australian one. I remember having to have an English accent at home and an Australian one at school. I aim to present this state of in-between and the awkwardness and vulnerability I felt as a child.

I now experience migration as an enriching point of difference, giving me a unique perspective and contributing to my sense of being Tasmanian.
