Edna Broad - Retail Therapy

Edna Broad
Retail Therapy 2008

The 'economy' is the issue that informs this particular work in the sense that retail spending by consumers appears to be tied to inflation that is pushing up interest rates for homebuyers.

The question I ask is whether the stresses of dealing with the 'economy', together with the constant barrage of retail advertising, is actually causing people to continue to buy furniture, accessories and electrical goods as retail therapy.

Shopping trolleys are icons of consumerism and my miniatures and their contents of lounge suites and accessories are offered as metaphors for our obsession with buying retail goods.
