Living on an island the size of Tasmania it is easy access to our coastal areas. Having grown up on the far North West coast of Tasmania, living on the edge of wilderness, beach culture is very ingrained.

Since its initiation in Tasmania I have watched the surfing culture develop. The energy, independence and spirituality associated with surfing makes a healthy activity, both mentally and physically. I always feel a sense of relief when I see our youth and their boards.

This belongs to a series of 5 paintings. It is the first time I have had human representation in my work.
