Penny Burnett - Self-Portrait Through Rose Coloured Glasses

Penny Burnett
Self-portrait through rose coloured glasses

This image is about searching and perception. The notion of rose coloured glasses is one of bias, ignorance or optimism. I wanted to present a work that indicated women are no longer viewing life through these lenses, the glasses are not rose, in fact the majority of the image is monochromatic which minimises emotional attachment and allow us to really see without distraction. The camera lens has been associated with photo documentation and truth. Island Life: Through Women’s Eyes is about Women Seeing, Engaging and being part of this State from our own experience and not what we have been told or led to believe. This work is about Women now and in the future.
