Before moving to Tasmania, I lived in the harsh fire prone conditions of Central West NSW, and had experienced fire at first hand. Yet, nothing had prepared me for the extremes of emotion I felt when I saw the devastation and destruction resulting from the December 2006 bushfires here in N.E. Tasmania, and talked with, and held my friends as they told their stories of protecting their families while defending, and both losing and saving their homes while their men were away working the fire front.

This painting Strength is a tribute to those brave women of Tasmania.
