Mabel Byrom To the Islands
Island life as I experienced it whilst living aboard a boat sailing from Hobart to the Cape York Peninsular.
Anchoring at the Islands along the East Coast I observed an idyllic life style.
Music, singing, around the campfires along the shoreline beneath the canopy of coconut palms. Fishing for squid to help with the daily menu.
Observing wild life at sea, whales, dolphins, flocks of Torres Strait Pigeons flying low, turtles, and scores of butterflies heading across the sea somewhere, together with numerous sea birds.
Flashes of silver as shoals of fish leap out of the turquoise coloured sea. Names of boats became household names as we cruised along. Riva Styx, Sea Ark, Jubilant Spirit, Vamoose, Scallywag, and Have No Fear.
