Anne beading an island, Portrait of Anne Bevan
Three islands exist for Anne Bevan, Mental Health Worker and Humanitarian…
-
The actual sea-bound land mass that is Tasmania.
-
The island of Mental Health Work.
-
Her own special island of beads.
Island No. 1… Tasmania
Anne is constantly aware of distance, of Tasmania’s detachment from activities on the mainland and within the wider world, developments which she needs to be fully conversant with in order that her “second island” profits by her knowledge.
Island No. 2… Mental Health Work
Anne needs to tread this special, complex, frustrating yet rewarding “smaller island” in full awareness of its function as an independent unit yet one which is integral to Tasmania’s well-being.
Island No.3… Anne’s Island of Beads.
Anne has created her own tiny island of uninterrupted peace and calm, a place where nothing concerns her but, beauty, and meditative creativity. Safe on her island where only colour, light, pattern, shape and texture exist, on this island the turbulent seas surrounding her are of no concern, here she regains her strength to walk the greater and smaller islands of her life.
