Water - no life without it

When 2004 was declared the “Year of Water” members of the Bellerive Community Arts Centre created art pieces on the theme of this most vital of the elements.

The background fabric was a gift to the B.C.A.C. from the Estate of Textile Artist, Lorraine Hepburn, and was featured in her unfinished work Drought 1995 in the Long Gallery Exhibition Tradition, Cloth, Meaning curated by Sara Lindsay Sept/Oct 1995.

As a child in WA I knew of windmills and watertanks and the Kalgoorlie pipeline and the small persistent oasis of green beneath taps.

I have seen the green island of Tasmania turn parched and brown, flush green, grateful for recent rain.
