Regardless of the size of the island, women’s lives do not really alter and we are no different wherever in the world we live.
The Australian image is one of a ‘battler’ a person who had humble beginnings but by sheer hard work (and children) conquered all hurdles to create a better life for self and family.
These concepts began to change in the 30s and 40s when women began to find independence through work in wartime jobs (munitions factories – land girls etc).
