Tasmanian Women’s Plan - an update

From mid-November 2011 until 27 January 2012, the Tasmanian Government sought feedback from women and women’s organisations for the development of the Tasmanian Women’s Plan. There were various ways in which women and women’s organisations could participate in this process including doing a survey or by submitting written submissions.

We are happy to report that we had an overwhelming response to our consultation, with over 1,000 women participating in the survey. We also received 12 in-depth written submissions from organisations and individuals.

Women and girls play important roles in the Tasmanian community and the five-year Tasmanian Women’s Plan will help ensure that Government policies, programs and projects are responsive to the needs of women and girls and are representative of their views.

We intend to use the written submissions and survey results to draw upon ideas and suggestions in order to develop the five-year Tasmanian Women’s Plan.

Due to the enormous response and the time it takes to analyse such results, we have extended our timelines for development of the draft report. We intend to have a draft Women’s Plan ready by mid-September.

For those who took part in the community consultation, we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your views with us. By taking the time to complete the written submission or survey you have helped to shape the Government’s response to issues for Tasmanian women and girls for the next five years.
