The Office of Children and Youth Affairs works with and supports Tasmanian councils to develop initiatives to meet the needs of young people in their community by:
- Administering the Local Government Seed Funding program to support projects that increase young people’s participation in, and connectedness to, their community.
- Convening the annual Local Government Youth Forum for Council staff working with young people, or interested in issues concerning young people, to promote a shared understanding of youth issues and initiatives through networking and information sharing.
- Undertaking the Youth Services and Facilities Survey that provides Government with an overview of existing programs, services, and facilities currently provided by Councils for young people in Tasmania.
- Providing information to and developing resources for councils to encourage youth participation and social inclusion.
