Licensing and permitsThe Office of Aboriginal Affairs (OAA) facilitates the issuing of permits under the relevant pieces of legislation for Aboriginal Cultural activities. Permits are issued for fishing activities, mutton birding and other cultural activities. OAA has an agreement with the Department of Primary Industries and Water to issue fishing gear registration numbers to Aboriginal fishers to mark their cray pots and fishing nets. This allows for Aboriginal fishers to mark their fishing gear in a way that is compliant with fisheries legislation and prevents unnecessary seizure of gear by Marine Police. Permits are also issued for cultural mutton birding activities in the South. For more information please contact OAA reception. Office of Aboriginal Affairs |
