Apply now for work experience in the private sector

Businesses are ready right now to offer placements!

Are you a recently arrived humanitarian entrant living in Tasmania aged over 18?

Are you currently unemployed?

Want something to do in your spare time and get valuable experience in the Tasmanian workforce at the same time?

If the answer to the questions above is yes then the Creating Connections and Opportunities project is for you!

The Creating Connections and Opportunities (CCO) project aims to help break down the initial barriers to employment for humanitarian entrants by providing up to eight weeks of valuable work experience in the private business sector. The project is an initiative of Multicultural Tasmania in the Department of Premier and Cabinet, in partnership with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

The Creating Connections and Opportunities Project will help participants:

  • Gain work experience in an Australian workplace.
  • Develop skills and knowledge of an Australian work environment
  • Gain a referee for future job seeking endeavors.
  • Improve networking opportunities.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a permanent resident or citizen of Australian;
  • be a recently arrived humanitarian entrant living in Tasmania;
  • be available during normal business hours of 8.45am to 5.00pm;
  • not be employed permanently;
  • be motivated to learn;
  • have good English language skills; and
  • be at least 18 years old.

You can apply for a work placement any time from now until June 2010.

Opportunities for work placements are limited, so apply as soon as possible or you may lose out.

Help your business by helping someone else

Multicultural Tasmania is seeking businesses interested in offering up to eight weeks unpaid work experience to newly arrived humanitarian entrants who are keen to demonstrate their skills to a Tasmanian employer.

The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry fully supports the CCO project. We have successfully hosted one work place participant and have offered more work placements! We strongly encourage all Tasmanian businesses to get involved and experience the wide-ranging benefits of the project.
