The Tasmanian Government established the $1 million Community Capacity Building Grants Program to support projects that progress one or more of the strategies in A Social Inclusion Strategy for Tasmania.

This new program incorporated the grant programs previously administered by the Community Development Division through Multicultural Tasmania, the Office of Children and Youth Affairs, the Seniors Bureau and Women Tasmania.  The grant round was opened on 24 October 2009 and closed on 30 November 2009.

The Community Capacity Grants Program was designed to give priority to initiatives that:

  • promote social inclusion and enable connection with the community for all community members;
  • address disadvantage to improve the lives of community members experiencing social exclusion; or
  • improve Tasmanians’ participation in the social, economic, political and cultural life of their community.

The Tasmanian Government recognises and values the important role that local government, not-for-profit community organisations and community groups play in delivering projects, programs and events that support Tasmanian communities and would like to thank all applicant organisations.

Applications to the Community Capacity Building Grants Program were assessed by three independent regional panels through a competitive process.  Each assessment panel consisted of five community and local government representatives, as well as a representative from the Stronger Communities Taskforce. Nearly 400 applications were received, of which 138 community events, programs and projects were funded.

The list of successful applicants in each region are as follows:
