Metro comes on board the Companion Card programSince March 2008 Metro Tasmania has been officially accepting the Tasmanian Government’s Companion Card. Under the Companion Card program, cardholders who buy a ticket or pay an entry fee at affiliated businesses receive another ticket for their companion carer at no extra charge. Metro’s decision to join the program recognises that being able to catch a bus to the pool, the movies, the footy, the cricket or any other activity is important in helping cardholders be part of Tasmanian community life. Metro Chief Executive Tony Sim said Metro was pleased to sign on to the Companion Card program. The Tasmanian Government established the Companion Card program in 2006 as part of its Disability Framework for Action. The framework aims to remove some of the barriers to participation in Tasmania’s social, cultural and economic life for people with disability. The Companion Card is an important initiative in achieving this goal and there are now more than 700 cardholders in Tasmania. Cardholders can use their cards at more than 80 cultural, sporting, leisure, tourism, arts and entertainment venues throughout Tasmania, more than 1,400 in Victoria and Western Australia, and a growing number of businesses in Queensland and South Australia. More information and application packs for the Companion Card are available from www.companioncard.org.au or by contacting the Disability Bureau Enquiry Line on 1800 009 501. Anyone who is deaf, has a hearing impairment or complex communication needs can telephone the Disability Bureau TTY (telephone typewriter) on 1800 654 524 or the National Relay Service on 13 36 77 or the Speech-to-Speech Relay Service on 1300 555 727. |
