Companion Card Program

Companion card logoThe Tasmanian Companion Card was launched by the Minister for Community Development, Michelle O'Byrne MHA on 3 December 2006, International Day for People with a Disability.

The Companion Card is for people with a disability who require assistance from a companion to participate at community venues and activities. Cardholders can present their card at participating organisations when purchasing a ticket or paying an admission fee, and receive a ticket for their companion carer at no charge.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for a Tasmanian Companion Card, you must be able to demonstrate all of the following:

  1. You live in Tasmania; and
  2. You have a disability; and
  3. Due to the impact of your disability, you are unable to participate at most community venues or activities without attendant care support; and
  4. Your need for this level of support will be life-long.

Where can the card be used?

Man in wheelchair with companionAny organisation that charges an admission or participation fee for its services or activities may accept the Companion Card.

The Companion Card program was developed with an initial focus on recreation, leisure, social and cultural venues and activities, but is open to participation by other industries.

Tasmanian cardholders may also use their card at participating organisations interstate. Visit the Companion Card website for a list of current affiliates.
