Agency Disability Action Plans

The Disability Framework for Action (DFA) requires each government agency, as part of their strategic and business planning, to prepare a Disability Action Plan which sets out how the needs of people with disability will be considered in the design and delivery of agency policies, programs, services and facilities.

All agencies are expected to address the following areas in their disability action plans:

  • Promotion of disability awareness
  • Accessibility of government buildings and venues
  • Access to information
  • Employment opportunities
  • Policy development and service delivery
  • Coordination between government agencies and the community.

IRobin Wilkinsonn addition, agencies are required to include in their disability action plans strategies to improve their performance, in relation to people with disability, which are relevant to their core business. This would include policies, programs and services administered, delivered or funded by agencies.

There is an expectation that agencies consult with people with disability and/or the organisations that represent them in the creation and review of disability action plans.

The Tasmanian Government is very appreciative of the contribution made by individuals and disability organisations in Tasmania in providing information and advice to agencies in relation to the creation of disability action plans.

Ms Robin Wilkinson (on right) a well respected Tasmanian with considerable experience in advising on the development of actions plans, in both the private and public sectors, spoke on disability action plans at the March (2008) meeting of the Government’s Interdepartmental Disability Policy Committee.
