Pensioner and unemployed bus concession (Metro/Merseylink)

All sections single flat fares of $1.80 and off-peak multi-trip fares of $2.80 are available to people with a:

  • Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
  • Centrelink Health Care Card
  • Seniors Card holders from all states and territories.

Pensioner and unemployed bus concession (other operators)

A 50 per cent concession on the approved adult base fare is available to people who:

  • receive the Age or Widow Pension and have a Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
  • receive a Newstart or Youth Allowance and have a Centrelink Health Care Card.

Student fares of $1.20 (single trip) and $9.60 (10 ride ticket) apply at all times – not just for travel to and from school, and are available to:

  • students aged up to and including 18 years.

Student bus fares – urban fringe and rural areas

Student fares of $0.30 (from 1 July to 31 December 2008) and $0.60 (from 1 January 2009) apply at all times – not just for travel to and from school, and are available to students aged up to and including 18 years who are travelling:

  • into or out of an urban area (such as Westbury to Launceston)
  • outside an urban area and either using a town service, or travelling beyond their local school.

Visually impaired concession (other operators)

A 50 per cent concession on the approved adult base fare is available to visually impaired people who have a:

  • Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card for Disability Support Pension (Blind).

The concession is also available to an accompanying mobility instructor.

Transport services (Islands)

Bass Strait Islands air travel concessions

A rebate of 50 per cent of the cost of one return trip to Northern Tasmania per financial year is available to aged residents of Bass Strait islands who have a:

  • Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Age Pensioner Concession Card.

Bruny Island ferry service concessions – vehicles less than 5 metres in length

A visitor pensioners peak and off-peak fare of $12 is available to people who have a:

  • Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card.

A visitor seniors peak fare of $19 and off-peak fare of $17 is available to people who have a:

  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
  • Tasmanian Seniors Card.

Islander peak and off-peak fares of:

  • $12 for residents
  • $10 for seniors
  • $6 for pensioners
  • $5 for students
  • $110 for a prepaid 10 trip ticket
  • $200 for a prepaid 20 trip ticket

are available to:

  • permanent residents of Bruny Island
  • people who pay rates on land/property on Bruny Island.

Bruny Island ferry service concessions – vehicles between 5 and 6 metres in length

Visitor peak fares of $28 for pensioners and seniors, and off-peak fares of $21 for pensioners and $24 for seniors are available to people who have a:

  • Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
  • Tasmanian Seniors Card.

Islander peak and off-peak fares of $16 for pensioners and $18 for residents are available to:

  • permanent residents of Bruny Island
  • people who pay rates on land/property on Bruny Island.

Taxis

Transport Access Scheme – concession taxi travel

A 50 per cent concession on the cost of travel by non-wheelchair accessible taxi is available to people:

  • with a permanent and severe disability who have been assessed as meeting eligibility criteria for membership of the Transport Access Scheme.

Who have a:

  • Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
  • Centrelink Health Care Card
  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card.

A maximum subsidy of $25 per single journey applies.

Transport Access Scheme – concession taxi travel

A 60 per cent concession on the cost of travel in a wheelchair accessible taxi is available to people:

  • with a permanent and severe disability who have been assessed as meeting eligibility criteria for membership of the Transport Access Scheme, and who are totally wheelchair reliant.

A maximum subsidy of $30 per single journey applies.

TT Line

Cabin fares on the Spirit of Tasmania

Up to a 37 per cent concession on cabin* fares is available to people on a full government pension who have a:

  • Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card.

Cardholders are required to provide their pension card number and verify they receive a full government pension.

Up to a 14 per cent concession on cabin* fares is available to people:

  • over 60 years of age (appropriate identification is required).

* excludes deluxe cabins

Other transport

Conveyance allowance

An allowance to assist with the cost of transporting students by private vehicle to the nearest school or school bus service is available to students:

  • who live five kilometres or more from the nearest school or school bus stop (whichever is the closer)
  • with special needs who are unable to access public transport
  • living on Bass Strait islands and attending their closest educationally appropriate school or college on mainland Tasmania.

Patient travel assistance

Financial assistance is available to all Tasmanians who need to travel more than 75 kilometres one way within the State or interstate to access specialist medical services (not available in their local area), providing they do not qualify for other assistance such as MAIB or workers’ compensation.

Levels of assistance are determined by the distance, the type of travel and accommodation required.

Client contribution towards costs are reduced for holders of a:

  • Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card (except for DVA Gold Card and in some cases, White Card)
  • Centrelink Health Care Card.
